Tarangire Safari Tanzania, 2 Days wildlife viewing expperience

Day 1.     Arusha to Tarangire National park.
We recommend an early morning departure out of Arusha at the same time, your guide picks up from your hotel. The morning Tarangire Safari Tanzania tour in the national park starts either in Arusha alternatively, on arrival. Departing through the outskirts of the Airport, the drive is through the Masai Settlements with Donkeys and goats. You will see part of East Africa’s largest the Military training school.

Proceed to the park arriving for a mid morning game viewing safari in the Acacia forests. Meanwhile, Baobab trees attract Elephants which feed off its succulent bark. The Baobab trees grace the beauty of the National park, and no other plants grow in their vicinity. Begin the safari along the banks of the Tarangire aboard the custom built safari vehicles. The vehicle hatch opens out to the Savannah and highlights Giraffes grazing as well as migrations of the wildebeest. Many of the big five animals come down to the river for an afternoon drink. Lunch is served at the Lodge before an evening game drive for predators like the lions , jackals and Hyenas. In the evening, return to the Lodge for dinner then overnight at the Tarangire Safari Lodge or Private Tented camp.

Day 2 Tarangire safari, wildlife watching

Rise up early in the morning, thereafter commence an early morning game drive in the park. The Big cats like the Lions prefer hunting in the early mornings before dawn. Enjoy Cheetah sightings around the scrubs that dot the park. Zebra in large concentrations head to the seasonal ponds or along the Tarangire River. Look out for the largest bird in the world on the open Savannah.

The Ostrich with its distinct Black coat of feathers, as well as the rare Masai giraffe grace the acacia. Return to the Tarangire safari Lodge or camp for a relaxed breakfast while observing herds of elephants and birds. Later, check out of your hotel for a short drive back to Arusha. Along the way, you may stop to take pictures of the Mount Meru or Kilimanjaro. Alternatively, other areas of interest before being dropped back at your pick up point or overnight accommodations. General Information with excursions around Tarangire National park

The Tarangire safari is accessible as a 2 hour drive out of Arusha town or a one hour drive from the Ngorongoro Crater. Following the return of the migrations from the Masaai mara in Kenya, the wildlife congregates at Tarangire National park first. They then spread out heading to the southern parts of Serengeti National park through Lake Manayara.

The best wildlife viewing takes place in the months of June up  until the end of October when the big five utilize the River Tarangire. African rock pythons frequent the plains of the Tarangire and sightings of them taking gazelle or Impala are common.

Rare sightings in the Tarangire National park include the elegant fringe eared oryx that majestically stroll through the park. Gerenuks feeding upright on the acacia shrubs provide provide good opportunities on the mid morning game drive. Colonies of banded mongoose descend on the open Savannah to hunt for dung beetles and insects on the baobab territory.

Tarangire Bird watching.

Bird watching at Tarangire is best in the early mornings, as well as evenings in between the day’s safari. With over 550 species of rare birds, Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s preferred park for birding. Common Ostrich move in pairs and at times may be spotted with chicks. On the tracks, lookout for flocks of the helmeted guinea fowls, as well as the cattle egrets among Zebra or elephants. The Kori bustard, as well as the secretary bird are adapted to feeding on small amphibians and snakes.

Namaqua Dove with a distinct black face, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, African Emerald Cuckoo and Pennant-winged Night jar. Speckled Mousebird, White-headed Barbet, African Broadbill, Black Saw-wing,
Red-faced Crombec and Rattling Cisticola.  Arrow-marked Babbler, White-browed Robin-Chat, Red-billed Oxpecker
Yellow-billed Ox pecker, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, African Pied Wagtail and Rufous-tailed Weaver.
Red-headed Quelea flock in huge numbers, while the Yellow Bishop and the Red-cheeked Cordonbleu are common in the shrubs.

Ang’ata Tarangire Camp

Ang’ata Tarangire Tented Camp is a private tented camp situated in the wilderness on the Tarangire National park. Access to the Angata is through the nearby Airstrip, if arriving by air. The Tented camp is based on locally salvaged materials from the environment. The Safari tents offer guests an African safari experience, with views of the park and the Tarangire Hill.

The camp features guest accommodations with mosquito netting over rustic beds. Rooms are furnished with hot and cold showers, as well as flushing toilets. For the afternoons and the evenings after game viewing, clients enjoy outdoor camp fires.  Outdoor breakfasts or dinning are possible when the weather conditions permit.

Excursions and day tours at Tarangire meander through the nearby Marshes where sightings of Kudu, as well as tree climbing pythons are common. Lion hunts are best in the early mornings or in the late evenings. Ang’ata camp also organizes guided walking safaris on the Savannah, as well night game drives with spotlights.

Tarangire safari Lodge.

Tarangire Safari Lodge is centrally located in the central Tarangire National park and consists of Tents and Cottages. Safari Tents are built on raised concrete slabs on an escarpment overlooking the Tarangire River.  The camp is visited by a host of Wildlife, among these, Elephants, Gazelle, as well as Baboons and Hyena.

The more luxurious cottages are a distance away and offer private views of a watering hole that attracts game.

Rooms are equipped with solar powered showers, baggage lockers, bug/insect netting and flush toilets.

The Tarangire safari lodge offers residents a large swimming pool to relax after game viewing. Also on the property, is a bar and restaurant. The annex outdoor lounge with a viewing platform offers 180 degrees view of the park and the Elephants on the River.

The property has a gift shop from where, residents can buy a Tanzanian souvenir or safari supplies in case of necessity.

Sopa Lodge Tarangire National park.

A luxurious lodge built based on Maasai themed cottages in Tarangire National park. The lodge cottages offer twin, double or single accommodation. Rooms are spacious and feature Traditional Tanzania décor as well as bedside tables and reading lights.  A minibar, as well as Wifi in other sections of the property.

The lounge, bar and restaurant open up into the park for game viewing and scenery. Outdoor dining and sun downers are also available on request.

A large swimming pool is available, as well as sun loungers to relax to after a mid-day swim.

Oliver’s Camp Tarangire National park.

A private up market Tented camp overlooking the monyonyo flood plains. The marshes attract a wide variety of wildlife, as well as bird life. Guests enjoy some game viewing from the balcony of their tents. The 10 room camp with an attached main lodge building was crafted out of locally source materials. Use of straw, stone, as well as timber decking feature throughout the camp.

Luxury Tents are spacious and offer outdoor and indoor showers. Rooms are powered by renewable energy from solar panels. A standby generator also powers the rooms for charging purposes. Rooms are furnished with lockable safari trunks/chests for valuables keeping. The large netting in the rooms let in a cool breeze on hot days.  Meanwhile the deck floors keep insects and small crawling animals and insects away from the rooms. A reading table and floor rugs as well as reading books compliment the décor of the rooms.
