8 Days Shaba game reserve, Lake Nakuru Masai Mara tour Kenya

Day 1: Mara tour Kenya first night in Nairobi
Met on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After a short briefing by your safari guide, transfer to Nairobi and check in at your overnight Hotel at the Nairobi Serena.

Day 2:
Following breakfast, your Mara tour Kenya Adventure begins with a departure northwards into Kenya’s wilderness to the Shaba game reserve. This protected national reserve is renowned for a documentary made of Joy Adamson with a Lioness Elsa which is featured in the 1960s Born Free film. The movie,”Out Of Africa” was also shot on location in this area and a monument of Joy Adamson exists. This is a long drive into the park and we arrive for a late lunch before an evening game drive through the acacia shrubs with riverine forest cover and ginger bread palms. Game viewing in search of Oryx and Reticulated giraffes starts through the lava rock formations and spend the evening at the swimming pool in these high temperatures. Dinner and overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge.BLD

Day 3:
Morning breakfast in this beautiful setting before starting the morning safari in the game reserve. The Shaba game reserve hosts animals not usually seen on Kenya’s game safaris. We will have a mid morning game drive into the acacia forests and doum palms where we will be searching for klipspringers that perch on the rock formations.

Wildlife viewing Shaba

Look out for Rock Hyraxes, small animals related to the African Elephant on the larva formations. Other animals on the game drive include; Elands grazing in the water catchment areas, Gazelles as well as the Masai Ostriches only endemic to this part of Kenya. You will have lunch at the lodge before returning for an evening tour of the area to look for some nocturnal animals like the leopards and the Aardvarks which burrow in the ground to eat ants. Evening relaxing by the pool before dinner and overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge.BLD

Day 4:
Breakfast early and have one last drive out of the Shaba Game reserve. Look out for Bright’s gazelle and the gerenuks that stand on the hind legs feeding off the acacia leaves. You may also spot Kudus and the rare reticulated Giraffes before heading out towards the Thompson’s Falls. Have lunch here and head into the Lake Nakuru National Park arriving with an evening game viewing tour along the flamingo covered Lake. Later, transfer to your overnight accommodation at the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. BLD

Day 5:    Lake Nakuru flamingos

Morning breakfast and have the morning game viewing safari. our tour on the Lake shores highlights the over one million flamingos that can be mistaken for a pink carpet on Lake Nakuru when seen from a distance. The animal numbers have also gone up and this park now hosts the largest number of white and Black rhinos in Kenya. The drives on the grasslands will yield Thomson’s gazelle feeding alongside the Rothschild Giraffes. You may also see Lion, Leopard striped Hyena and other wildlife. Birds in the park include: Sacred Ibis, African Spoonbill, Scissor-tailed Kite, White-headed Vulture, Tawny Eagle, Grasshopper Buzzard, White-bellied Bustard, Common Green shank, White-winged Tern, Levaillant’s Cuckoo, Klaas’s Cuckoo, Pallid Swift, Striped Kingfisher, Madagascar Bee-eater, Brown-crowned Tchagra and many more. Meals and overnight Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. BLD

Day 6:
After an early breakfast, depart from Lake Nakuru and proceed to the Masai Mara Safari Game reserve. Arrive with an enroute game viewing safari on the expansive plains of Savannah grassland and trees. You may be able to see all the Big Five in this park. The safari guide will be searching for lions as they hunt, Cape buffalo, Black rhinos in the bushes. Along the river bank, leopards climb in the trees but are rare. Meanwhile, Elephants move in single file lines guided by the oldest mother Elephant “the matriarch”. Meals and overnight at the Mara Serena, Sopa or Sarova Lodge. BLD

Day 07: Final game drive Masai Mara

Another game drive in the Masai Mara game reserve. During the migrations, Nile crocodiles occupy vantage points on the river crossings as they ambush the wildebeests crossing in from Tanzania. Hippos can also be seen along the River banks and usually grunt away into the night while grazing on the banks. cheetahs are mostly seen under the trees taking care of their young or hunting. Lunch will be provided at the Lodge before an optional visit to the Masai tribesmen for some cultural interaction. Alternatively, at an extra fee, you could take a balloon safari over the Mara to see  wildlife from the air. This activity requires advance booking and is priced separately from the main safari. Meals and overnight at the Mara Serena, Sopa or Sarova Lodge. BLD

Day 08:
Morning breakfast and transfer to the Rift valley viewpoint for a short stopover. Later, proceed to Nairobi and on to the airport for the evening departure flight.
