Kenyan safari tour, The Ark, Mount Kenya Safari Club, Sweet waters and Samburu wildlife reserves

Day 1 . The Ark
Early start from Nairobi, then travel through the traditional homesteads and farmlands of the Kenyan Kikuyu tribes. The Kenyan safari tour continues to the Ark Aberdares, named after the historical boat in the religious times. Proceed to the lodge to have lunch at the Arberdares country club before having the entire evening enjoying the floodlit waterhole. Animals usually come down for a drink and enjoy the salt lick. The common animals to see in this area are the ever present Giant Forest Hogs that burrow in the soft mud. Bush buck, which is a delicacy for the elusive leopard, rhinoceros and the Bongo. Later, have dinner and overnight at the Arberdares Ark.

Day 2 . Mount Kenya Safari Club
Morning breakfast at the lodge then proceed to the prestigious Mt. Kenya Safari Club.  With views of the Mount Kenya peaks, you will have lunch, before having the afternoon to explore the activities of this Resort. The Club offers some excellent golfing on their 9 hole course at an altitude of over 2000 metres above sea level. Alternatively, one could workout on the tennis court or take a jogging session along the trail on the property. Meals and overnight at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club the club.

Day 3 . Mt. Kenya Safari Club

Following breakfast, you will visit the William Holden Foundation orphanage. This is one of the first private game reserves in East Africa which was established to educate the Kenyan communities the benefits of wildlife conservation. Animals to see include: Rhinos, Bongo, cheetah, Zebra, Lion in addition to many others. You could visit the trout fish farming project where part of the river has been diverted to nourish a a fish pond. The rest of the day may be spent relaxing at the heated swimming pool or enjoying the Asian style Spa treatment before dinner and overnight at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club the club.

Day 4 . Sweetwater’s Kenya tour

Morning breakfast at the club and later, drive to sweet waters in Nanyuki. On arrival at the Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp, we will have lunch before having the mid morning viewing of wildlife. At the adjacent floodlit waterhole, animals can be seen drinking from the banks. These include: Elephants, warthogs, Black and white rhinos, Zebra as well as Giraffe and Impala. Later, in the evening, have a drive into the Olpejeta reserve where we will see more of the Jackson’s Hartebeests, leopard and a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary before retiring back to the Sweetwaters Serena tented camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 . Samburu National Reserve
Breakfast at the Safari Camp then proceed through the arid countryside into the Samburu area. Thereafter, will arrive with an en route game drive in the national park. Later, spotting some of the rare species not seen anywhere on a Kenyan Safari tour. Masai ostriches are frequently seen on safari, while the Grevy’s Zebra with their stripped black and white patterns give a contrast in the African Savannah. You will also see Biesa Oryx, a graceful antelope with its sharp horns. Later, have another evening game drive and proceed to have dinner and overnight at the Samburu lodge or the Larsen’s camp.

Day 6: Samburu

Morning breakfast and have a morning and evening game drive in the park. This is punctuated by a return to the Lodge to cool down for in the African heat. Rare species of wildlife include the Gerenuks which feed from the acacia trees, Reticulated giraffe with a distinct pattern of scarlet colored patches. Also, look out for the large prides of Lion, Elephants, the shy leopard in the trees or camouflaging in the vegetation. As the day comes to the end, it is possible to see the Vulturine guinea fowls and if time allows, for a small fee, you may consider visiting the Samburu tribal community for some cultural entertainment. As well as getting to understand the way of life of these people that live close to the African wildlife. Meals and overnight at Samburu lodge or Larsen’s camp.

Day 7: Nairobi
We will have breakfast and have the final safari viewing at dawn. Later, we will proceed to Nairobi, stopping along the way for the final photo opportunities before arriving in the early afternoon.
