KILIMANJARO CLIMBING SAFARI VIA THE MACHAME ROUTE TANZANIA

Day 1.
Morning pick up from the Airport or Departure from Arusha then transfer to the Mountain base through Moshi for meals and overnight at the Mountain Base. This day, is meant for acclimatization for the Kilimanjaro climbing trip. Meal plan: Dinner.

Day 2
Breakfast in the morning and have the porters and equipment, set up before starting the 5 hour Kilimanjaro climb. We will be climbing from the open gardens to the park boundary. This is a climb of about 5 to 6 hours going through some Montane rain forests. Depending on the season of the climb, you may experience rains at the base of Mountain Kilimanjaro climbing, which usually makes the walking trail very slippery. Have lunch on the trail and later on climbing through the Moss forests referred to as ”old Man’s beard” and the tree ferns. You arrive at your overnight hut in the early evening where your cook and porters will already have started preparing your dinner. Meals and overnight at the Machame Hut which is at about 3100metres above sea level.

Day 3
Morning breakfast at the Machame camp, then start the ascent through an area of Montane forests characterized by giant heather and a drying zone of moorland, with scattered groundsels. Depending on the weather conditions, it may be possible to have the best views of the Peaks of the Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and the areas of machame of the previous overnight. Then hike through the Shira Plateau, leading through view points of the Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The hiking party transits through a steep trail into giant Lobelia and senecio mountain vegetation. The lunch break at a lovely view point provides some relief, before taking the final hour towards your overnight camp in the barren wilderness at Shira Campsite which is at an altitude of about 3658metres above sea level.

Day 4
Early morning breakfast and have an early start for a longer climb this day. Thereafter, scaling the Lava tower, a volcanic plug rising over about 100 metres above sea level. The vegetation finally gives way to bare ground as you ascend towards the higher points of the Mountain. The air gets thinner, and you may experience some mild altitude sickness at this point due to lack of oxygen.

At the view point along the Barranco Valley, the party lunches at an area of beautiful vegetation oasis in the hanging cliffs surrounded by Lobelia and and lovely views of the highest point on the mountain. The Barranco Camp is without a doubt the most spectacular campsite of this route, with fantastic views of Kibo, the Western Breach and the first of the southern glaciers, a fitting reward after a strenuous day. Later, proceed to the Barranco overnight Hut at an altitude of about 3860 metres above sea level which is bout 6hours of climbing.

Day 5
Morning breakfast and have the porters set off ahead of the team. Thereafter, climb through a large rocky outcrop called the Barranco wall. On the Kili climb, have a couple of stops for picture opportunities, as the climbers scale the sheltered valleys of Karanga. On the hike, visitors to the Kilimanjaro will see some bird and plant life. Finally, the Kibo Peaks appear in view, then take the easier walk to the Mweka trailhead. Arriving later at the Barafu Hut for dinner and overnight at 4600metres above sea level. Hiking time, About 8 hours.

Day 6
The Highlight of our Kilimanjaro safari gets us starting early in the morning. We eventually climb through the Stella Point (5745m) on the final ascent to the Uhuru Peak (5895m). This is a long hike that takes about 6 hours and we start the hike in the darkness to catch the first light at the summit by morning. Finally, arrive at the highest point of the Kilimanjaro climbing safari. Start the descent by heading to the Mweka Hut located at an altitude of 5100m. Then will have meals here and overnight.
(Arguably the most strenuous walk as the walk is about 11 hours).

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, usually referred to as the “roof of Africa”, The Mount Kilimanjaro comprises of three volcanic cones which are’ Mount Kibo Mount Shira and Mawenzi Volcanoes. It should be noted that these are inactive volcanoes and the only volcanic activity on the mountain is only through vents in the side of the Mountain. The highest point in Africa is at 5,892 at Uhuru a highlight for a Kilimanjaro Safari climber.

It is also at this Mountain that you find snow right across the equator. Mount Kilimanjaro was formed as a result of eruption whereby, the molten rock materials were blown out of a volcanic cone and these materials building up to form a large volcanic mountain. The Kilimanjaro Mountain safari makes use of its three Volcanic cones.

It is on these cone that tourist routes are planned. The Kilimanjaro is a local word referring to a little Mountain and was seen by one of the first explorers in the region by the Names of John Rebman and also was named Kilimansharo or Kilimantsaro at the time when Tanzania was governed under the German East Africa. The Kilimanjaro climbing routes up to the Peaks are the following: Marangu, Lemosho,Rongai, Umbwe Shira, and Machame the most beautiful of all these climbs. However, you should note that the Machame Kilimanjaro climb is much steeper.

The Mount Kilimanjaro Rongai climb happens to the the simplest route although, one is expected to stay in mobile tents. The Marangu Mountain climb is the most popular where mountain hikers stay at the Mountain huts along the way. Due to the volume of Mountain Climbers on this route, you will expect this to be a little crowded and very busy. The Vegetation cover on Mount Kilimanjaro comprises of tussock grasslands, Montane forests, heath, Giant Lobelia, bamboo and other unique plants.
