Chimpanzee Gorilla Treks Uganda 13 days
Day one: Arrival in Uganda
Our chimpanzee gorilla treks safari begins at Entebbe, upon arrival pick up by your guide who transfers to the Hotel. Depending on the choice of hotel, the transfer is likely to take anywhere between 10 minutes or about 2 hours.
Transit time: 2 hours. BB
Day Two: Departure to Murchison Falls
Breakfast at the hotel and later, meet your guide to begin the chimpanzee and gorilla treks program. The morning drive is through riverine forests at Murchison falls where troops of Olive baboons line the main road. This afternoon, we will embark on the chimpanzee trekking experience with the resident guides from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The trip thereafter, heads to the River Nile Delta for overnight at the Murchison River Lodge or other category lodge. Meal Plan Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day Three: Safari at Murchison Falls
Morning game viewing on the northern bank of the Murchison falls begins with a guided tour through the different tracks. From the safari vehicle open hatch, see Elephants feeding off the bark of trees and shrubs. The elegant giraffes of the Rothschild species move in large numbers grazing on the whistling thorns vegetation of acacia. Lions tend to hunt in the mid morning with the thawing of the dew. Plentiful of bird life along the delta area and on animal kills is a must see for this tour.
Nile cruise and Crocodile safari
Through herds of cape buffalo and Hartebeest, later on, proceed to have a picnic lunch and proceed to the ferry crossing point. The large game viewing tourist boat with a guaranteed seat gets visitors access to the water points. In the afternoon heat, Hippo populations cool off and Nile crocodiles bask along the banks. A variety of game cools off on the Nile towards the bottom of the falls. In the evening, return to your overnight accommodations with an en-route game drive. Possible evening entertainment before dinner and overnight at the Murchison River Lodge. Meal Plan Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day Four: Chimpanzee gorilla treks option at Kibale
Morning breakfast and transit along the rift valley into the Bunyoro region. Drive through the Lakes Albert and the Blue Mountains of the Congo before stopping over for lunch. Later, depart for the tea growing area of Fort portal before proceeding to the edge of the Kibale forest. Spend the evening taking a self guided walk to the nearby Craters or viewing primates at the national park boundaries. Dinner and overnight at the Ndali Lodge, Kibale Cottages or the affordable A Home guest House. Estimated travel time: 7 hours.
Day Five:
The morning chimpanzee trekking program begins from the briefing point and will most likely take another 4 hours. The guides then begin looking out for a troop of wild chimpanzees in the forests of the Kibale national park. Chimpanzees are vocal and their loud noises leads the team to the tree canopies where the feeding family gets as close as 10 metres. Later, proceed to the starting point after an hour of chimp viewing before lunch and overnight at the Ndali Lodge or other.
Day Six: Chimpanzee trek at Karinzu Forest.
Morning breakfast and transfer to the Karinzu forest for the mid afternoon tracking of the Chimpanzees in the wild. Other primates in the forest like the blue monkey and lhoest monkeys occasionally appear on the trail. Thereafter, proceed to the Kazinga channel to take the cruise for some waterbird viewing and see other wildlife drinking water at the edge of the water banks. Look out for migratory birds that can be seen at a sand spar near the village of Kazinga. Later, exit the park and transfer to the luxury Katara lodge in the evening or other mid range lodging for dinner and overnight.
Day Seven: Queen Elizabeth Trip Uganda
Easy game viewing and occasional stops along the way for Baboons and red tailed monkeys. Elephants, as well as Helmeted guinea fowls can be seen on the main road towards Bwindi. You may also catch the Ishasha tree climbing lions lazying in the trees or the odd looking Topi grazing gracefully on the Savannah. The drive through the little villages and mixed crop gardens end uo at high altitude area of the Bwindi Impenetrable National park. The evening is spent at the viewing platform from where, one could hear the hoots of the chimpanzees or the black and white colobus monkeys. Mountain gorillas also occasionally visit the camp to feed on the surrounding vegetation . Meals and overnight a the Mountain Gorilla Resort Bwindi.
Day Eight: Chimpanzee Gorilla Treks activity
Breakfast at camp and take a short walk or drive to the park offices to attend a briefing. Meanwhile, in a group of 8, visitors depart for the day’s gorilla trek accompanied by a guide and trackers. The arduous hike in the mountains may take an average of 4 hours before viewing the Mountaingorillas for 60 minutes. The picnic lunches is served at a nice spot in the jungle before heading back to your vehicle to be driven back to camp. Should time allow, there are optional walks to the water falls, or a visit to the Batwa communities for cultural entertainment. Freshen up at your safari lodge or Tented camp before dinner and overnight at The Gorilla Resort Bwindi.
Day Nine: Transfer to the Volcanoes area
Morning after breakfast, drive through terraced evergreen Mountains referred to as the Little Switzerland of Africa. Have lunch on the way and later, proceed to the Kisoro area. The following day would be spent searching for colonies of the endangered Golden Monkeys. The evening is spent exploring the Lake Mutanda or the diffefrent Volcanic Crater cones of the Mgahinga National park environs. Later on, Meals and overnight at the Luxury, midrange of budget accommodations in Kisoro.
Day Ten: Golden Monkey trekking and Relaxing at Lake Bunyoni.
Early morning breakfast and later, begin the morning golden monkey trekking experience in the Bamboo forest. These shy monkeys that live in communities of over 40 individuals have been habituated and can be approached on foot by tourists. They will be viewed for about one hour on the bamboo forest floor, before heading back to the park offices to have a picnic lunch. The Golden monkey trek may involve hiking through some difficult terrain and so, one is advised to carry a walking stick for support. Visitors are also advised to have enough water in the day packs to re hydrate on the walk. After the chimpanzee gorilla treks, depart for serene Lake Bunyonyi to recuperate from the past days of the chimpanzee and gorilla treks. Meals and overnight at the Birdnest Lodge Lake Bunyonyi.
Day Eleven: Return to Kampala
Morning breakfast, then enjoy a leisurely drive back to Kampala. Stop over at the Uganda Equator to experience the gravitational forces and take pictures. In the early afternoon, you could have the driver guide take you to the craft village to shop for a souvenir. Proceed to your overnight accommodation in Kampala. Options being, Kampala Serena for Luxury, moderate option being the Eureka Palace Hotel. Meal plan: Breakfast and lunch.
Day Twelve:
After breakfast, eventually, your guide organizes a transfer or the Hotel will provide a shuttle to the airport for the departure flight. End of services.
