BUHOMA LODGE
The Buhoma Lodge lodge was the first accommodation in Bwindi at the time of the habituation of the first gorilla groups of Mubare and Katendegere in 1993. The Buhoma started as a basic jungle lodge in the early 1990s and was the only available accommodation at the time with basic provisions.
The Buhoma Lodge has now undergone extensive renovations and management changes and is currently among the best lodges in the area.
The Lodge is a couple of metres close to the park offices and some of the higher located rooms have some beautiful views of the dense Bwindi Impenetrable forest from which one can do some bird spotting and viewing black and white colubus from the main lodge.
The accommodations are based on rustic log cottages on stilts, each with a private Veranda, log beds private showers, toilet with running water and a couple of more luxurious room s with bathtubs. Rooms are screened for bugs and mosquitoes.
The main reception area houses a lounge, fire place, a bar and a library from which some reading about the wildlife of the area can be undertaken in a peaceful environment.
Mouth watering meals are prepared by the resident chef with a team of dedicated staff from the nearby community. The lodge sources fresh produce from the local farmers in the area for fresh supplies of vegetables and fruit, as well as poultry and other ingredients used in the recipes.
Power is provided using solar panels and inverted to ease charging cameras.
WiFi is also available for the guests as well as security safe deposits for valuables.
Airstrip transfers as well as vehicle hire for guests that arrive by air are provided at a fee.
