A Uganda coffee tour featuring the different types of coffee grown in different regions. The Arabica coffee grows on the slopes of Mount Elgon. This is Starbucks favorite, while the Robusta type grows in the other regions of central Uganda, as well as the Western Uganda.

Uganda coffee tour and wildlife safari

Day one:             Following your arrival, we will transfer to the overnight accommodation in Kampala for a Uganda coffee tour briefing. You will be staying at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort which is booked on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day Two:             Early morning breakfast and proceed through Jinja, stopping along the way to see the source of the river Nile. Later, head to the Mount Elgon slopes into Mbale arriving for lunch. The famous Arabica coffee grows in these regions. On arrival, we will transfer to a couple of out grower farmers in their gardens and have the entire evening visiting the farms. Due to the fact that Arabica coffee thrives best in volcanic rocks, we will be visiting an extinct Volcano from where some of this coffee grows. In the evening, transfer to the Mbale Resort Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day Three:          Morning breakfast and transfer to the Gumutindo cooperative coffee factory. With over 7,000 farmers working as a team, the factory has been able to improve lives of the out growers. At the factory, you will see the different quality controls of the processing “washed Arabica’’ coffee. The preparations in terms of picking the right berries, milling and drying are all seen at the factory. The society exports their produce directly and you will be able to see the grading and packing depending on the season. In the evening, return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight at the Mbale Resort Hotel.

Day Four:           Sipi falls uganda safari

This morning, you will have a brief tour to the Magnificent Sipi falls of the Mount Elgon. You will then hike back to your safari vehicles and return to Kampala arriving in the evening after a lunch break in Jinja. Dinner and overnight at the Lake Victoria Serena Hotel.

Day Five:             Breakfast at your hotel and later, drive to Masaka through a brief coffee stop at the Uganda Equator. Take pictures and see experiments of the different forces here before stopping along the way to look at some Robusta coffee farms in the area. After an African buffet lunch at Nyendo, transfer to the Kibinge Coffee cooperative to meet the team. The coffee harvesting season for Robusta in Uganda is during the months of May to September and November to January. You will see the initial coffee processing at the factory on site before storage for onward processing later. In the evening, transfer to your overnight accommodation at the Hotel Brovad.

Day Six:              Safari at Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth National parks

Morning breakfast at the lodge and later, drive through Lake Mburo park where you may spot wildlife along the main highway en route to Bushenyi. Transfer to the Ankole Coffee Producers Cooperative Union. Learn how the local farmers grow their coffee and dry the same on tarpaulins to avoid contamination. You will see the testing for moisture, sorting, grading, weighing and bagging as well as storage on wooden pallets. In the evening, proceed to your overnight accommodations at Katara Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National park.

Day seven:          The morning game viewing safari starts after breakfast when you transfer to the game viewing tracks at the park. Look for Lion kills of Uganda Kob or Cape buffalo. You may also encounter Elephant, spotted Hyena, Giant Forest Hog or Leopard. After a lunch break and a swim at the lodge, proceed to take an afternoon cruise on the Kazinga channel for a wildlife viewing trip. See Hippos, Hippos and other wildlife from the comfort of the 20 seater boat. Later, return to Katara Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day Eight:          Ishasha tree climbing lions and Bwindi gorilla sanctuary

A morning cup of freshly brewed coffee at the lodge, then depart through the Ishasha sector of the park. You are likely to spot some large Elephant bulls, Olive Baboons, Topi and with luck, tree climbing lions. Transfer to Bwindi for overnight at the Gorilla Tented Camp.

Day Nine:            Breakfast at the lodge and later start the morning gorilla trekking experience in Uganda’s Bwindi. Rangers will lead to the gorilla family and you will be granted up to 60 minutes of viewing and photographic the Mountain gorillas. Later, return to your accommodations for dinner and overnight at the Gorilla Tented Camp.

Day Ten:              Transfer through the scenic region known as the little Switzerland and proceed though Mbarara with a picnic lunch. Alternatively, have a hot lunch in Mbarara before heading back to Kampala. Overnight at Lake Victoria Serena on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day Eleven:        After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your departure flight. To bring a close to the Uganda coffee tour.
