5 Days Kibale Forest and chimps Queen Elizabeth Safari

Day One:
Begin the Chimps Queen Elizabeth safari on a morning or mid afternoon transfer from Entebbe airport. Alternatively, pick up from Kampala and  take a 5 hour drive to Fort portal. The drive is through some forests and tea plantations, before heading to the Kibale National park. Your overnight accommodations are close to the park boundary, with luck, you may be able to see chimpanzees. Crossing the main road near the park offices or feeding high up in the trees along the main road. Arrive in time for an early dinner in the Kibale Forest Camp or the Chimpanzee Guest House in Kibale. Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

Day Two:
Morning breakfast and later, a morning assembly at the briefing point in Kanyanchu. The chimpanzee trekking party afterwards, splits up in different groups with ranger guides. The chimpanzee trekking starts with the guided walk through the forest, on marked trails. Later on, the chimp trail, to spot some birds, plant species, including the strangler fig. The tree kills and finally feeds off other plants by entangling and buttressing its roots into the ground. Over 10 species of monkeys live in Kibale, which may include among others; grey cheeked Mangabey, red tailed monkey, red colubus, black and white colubus monkey, olive baboon, bush babies and a troop of wild chimpanzees habituated for close up viewing by humans.

Eventually, spend hour in the Kibale forest following the chimps and photographing them. Then, heading back to base for either a picnic lunch, or a warm meal at your Lodge. In the afternoon, you have an option of trekking through the Bigodi swamp on a wooden board. The swamp hosts some birds like the great blue turacos as well as being used as a water point by the monkeys from the Kibale National park. Meals and the night stay at Kibale Forest Camp or the Chimpanzee Guest House in Kibale. Meal Plan – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day Three: Uganda Safari to Kibale
Morning departure for Fort Portal through the beautiful Crater Lakes surrounded by forests and farmlands. Later, the afternoon spent exploring the Stalagmites in the amabere caves of Nynamwiru. Later, head for the Queen Elizabeth Uganda safari, crossing the Equator near Lake Kikorongo, and arriving with a game drive into the park. Have a picnic lunch in the park, before viewing the animals of the chimps Queen Elizabeth safari where Elephants, Cape buffalo, Uganda Kob, Waterbuck and other wildlife will be seen. Dinner and the night will be at the Katara Safari Lodge.

Day Four:
Breakfast in the early morning then start the morning drive into the rift valley base for the morning game viewing tour of the chimps Queen Elizabeth safari. The morning is spent in the Kasenyi track area where the areas around Lake Katwe and the Crater area provides some temporary relief from the Uganda Kob Antelopes at the mating grounds. You may be able to see the dominant males fighting off other Kobs and thereafter mating with the harem of females. It is also in this area, that the Queen Elizabeth Lion prides are active, as they stalk these unaware animals. Other wildlife seen on the morning drive may include; Elephant, Deffasa water buck, spotted hyena, bush buck, Jackal, Giant Forest Hog and Warthog.

The drive towards the Mweya Peninsular yields Leopard, or Hippos that graze through the euphorbia trees. After a picnic lunch at Mweya, then drive down to the jetty and board the Launch boat. With other wildlife safari enthusiasts, sail on the Kazinga channel, getting as close as possible to Elephant and Crocodile. Uganda Kob, Cape buffalo come down for a drink at the Channel. Other animals include, monitor lizards and the hundreds of Hippo in the afternoon heat. In addition, see cormorants, African skimmers, Knob Billed ducks, White and Pink Backed Pelican, African Fish eagles. Later on, head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight at the moderate or Katara Safari Lodge.

Day Five:
start with a morning breakfast at the lodge and later, check out for an enroute game viewing drive close to the Kazinga channel where we may spot more wildlife. Drive through the Buhweju craters and proceed through the banana growing areas in Bushenyi, before heading out to Mbarara. The drive towards Masaka, is through areas of the long horned Ankole cows which can be seen in the hundreds along the road. Proceed through the Lake Mburo National park areas and probably, see the odd Zebra or Impala, before heading to Masaka for lunch. Later, drive to the Uganda Equator to take pictures, as the demonstrations of the forces of nature are explained at this place. Later, either take the shorter cut to Entebbe Airport along the Lake Victoria, or proceed to Kampala to be dropped off at your pick up point.
