RWANDA WILDLIFE SAFARI, VOLCANO CLIMBING, GORILLA TREKKING, CHIMPANZEES AND BEACH – 14 DAYS

Day 01: Your Rwanda Wildlife Safari starts with a meet and greet by our safari representatives at the Airport. Transfer through the clean city to the Kigali Serena for overnight based on bed and breakfast. Eventually, spend the evening at leisure, taking a self guided tour of the town and visiting the craft markets.

Day 02: Rwanda wildlife Safari to Akagera National Park

Start the morning safari to Akagera National Park and later, begin game viewing with bird watching. A late afternoon safari in the park points out Cape Buffalo, Zebra, Giraffe and Elephant. In between the drives, you may want to relax by poolside. Meals and Overnight at Akagera Kempiski Lodge or Ruzizi Luxury Tented Camp.

Day 03: After a morning breakfast, then have more of game viewing in the Akagera National Park. The morning safari conducted closer to the Lake Akagera, yields herds of Eland grazing along the edges of the Marshes. If in luck, encounters with the Marsh Lions of Akagera on the morning safari is a possibility.  Look for Shoe Billed Stork, one of the rare species of birds that breeds in the papyrus. See Hippo and other wildlife on the morning tour, before returning to the lodge or camp for meals and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge or Ruhizi Luxury Tented Camp.

Day 04: Morning breakfast, then proceed through the beautiful Mountains. The drive is through the town of Musanze where you will be having lovely views of the Volcanoes. Eventually, have meals at your accommodations and in the evening or have a self guided walk in the local communities. You may as well ask your guide to organize a visit to the local Batwa pygmies who will be happy to show you their cultural dances and ways of life. Later on, return to the foot of the Volcanoes at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for overnight.

Day 05:   Volcano climbing 

Morning start your climb to the Mount Karisimbi. Mount Karisimbi is the highest of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains. It is a huge dome, now dormant, that dominates the range, more in girth than in height. Its name in Kinyarwanda means white shell, which refers to its often white-capped summit. Interestingly, this cap results not from snow but from hail and sleet which accumulate in the higher elevations from its frequent storms. You will camp up in the Mountain(subject to availability of support crew) before returning to base the following day.

Day 06: With your guide and trekking support party, you climb through different Mountain vegetation of Giant Lobelia and Bamboo then head to the the Peak of mount Karisimbi(4507m). After taking pictures, you will then descend through the mountain tracks returning at your lodge for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge at Kinigi.

Day 07: Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day of gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes gorilla park. Depending on the level of fitness, you may be allowed to choose the group of gorillas you wish to visit. The closest being about 2 hours or even a couple of minutes from the park boundary. Meals and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge Alternatively, climb Mount Bisoke where the biggest crater lake of the Virunga chain can be seen. Sighting is subject to fog conditions, while climb is through some beautiful mountain vegetation including bamboo forest, giant lobelia and hagenia.

Day 08: Mountain gorilla safari
Early morning hike to the Famous Dian Fossey Research center and Gorilla Grave Yard. Then visit the Karisoke Museum. Dr. Fossey spent close to two decades habituating, studying and conserving the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Return for overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 09: Morning breakfast then transfer to the Nyungwe Forest on a full day drive. This Forest contains a variety of habitats including montane forest, bamboo, grasslands, swamps and bogs, and is very mountainous too. It provides some of the best Colobus Monkey experiences in East Africa. Eventually, meet the first troops of Chimpanzees on the trail before returning to the lodge. Meals and Overnight at the new Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

Day 10:   Chimpanzee trekking Nyungwe

Breakfast early before starting the morning Primate or Chimpanzee trekking expedition in the forest in search of colonies of habituated Primates. Other wildlife in the forest include: grey-cheeked mangabeys, blue monkeys, Angolan colobus, L’hoest’s monkeys and owl-faced monkeys. Meals and overnight at Nyungwe Rain Forest Lodge.

Day 11 and 12: After breakfast, a long drive gets us to the serene Volcanic formed crater, the Lake Kivu. Spend the two days recuperating from the strenuous treks, as you enjoy optional water sports, spending time at the swimming pool, or relaxing at the Hotel Spa. The white sandy beach is also a good place to relax while at. Meals and overnight at the Kivu Serena Lodge.

Day 13: Morning at leisure then head to Visit of the Genocide Memorial where remains of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus can be seen. Meals and overnight at the Kigali Serena.

Day 14: Finally, take a morning transfer to the airport for departure flight.
