The trip also includes a visit to the endangered golden monkeys that can be observed feeding in colonies in the Bamboo sector of the national park.

Rwanda Gorilla Hike

This Rwanda gorilla hike tour also caters for, and is more suitable for those over 40.  Also, hikers with bad knees who wish to see the Mountain gorillas on a gorilla trekking bucket list. For those with severe disabilities, the visit to the Mountain gorillas is conducted by a stretcher service. This is an easy walk with porters up to the viewing point close to a group of Mountain Gorillas. This would be an extra service, you are welcome to contact us for more details on the pricing and logistics.

6 Day Rwanda two gorilla treks Luxury tour

Day One:             We begin our Rwanda gorilla hike trekking tour of Rwanda with an arrival into the Kigali International airport. The Rwanda safari guide will transfer from the arrivals section then  drive to the nearby Hotel. Arrive in Kigali for check-in and overnight at the Luxurious Kigali Serena Hotel. Meal plan: Bed and Breakfast.

Day Two:             Following a relaxed breakfast, the Rwanda gorilla trek begins with an easy departure through the countryside. Drive through views of the Virunga Mountains where Dian Fossey spent her later life studying and habituating the Mountain Gorillas. You will proceed to the top of the Mountains to arrive in the early afternoon. At the picturesque Virunga Lodge, you will take time to acclimatize to the higher elevations. This prepares trekkers for the following day’s gorillas in the Jungle experience. Lunch, as well as dinner and overnight at the Virunga Lodge.

Day Three:         Gorilla trek at Volcanoes National park Rwanda

Early morning breakfast at the lodge and then attend a morning two gorilla hikes briefing by the park officials. This will be in the presence of traditional dancers at the park offices in Kinigi. The trek commences with the guides allocating your trekking party. An easy gorilla group or easy hike option depending on your physical condition.

In case of bad knees, or those over the ages of 50 or the 70, please request for an easier hike. Walks begin through flat farmland and eventually a bushwhacking experience into the Volcanoes park. The Mountain gorilla trek in the bamboo ends at a group of gorillas as they feed. After an hour of viewing the gorillas, which may be near to the camp or lodge, return to the Lodge.  Lunch, dinner then overnight at the Virunga Lodge. Trekking time to the gorillas dependent on the pace of the party.

Day Four:            Mountain Gorilla Viewing

For the second day of your Rwanda gorilla hike, you will have an option of visiting a different gorilla group.  This day, the 2 gorilla treks tour begins with the porters in addition to the support teams. In the Volcanoes of Rwanda,trackers depart ahead of the main trekking team to find the gorillas in advance. Following a morning gorilla hiking in the Mountains, your guides take a short cut to ease finding the family of gorillas. An hour of seeing and photographing the Mountain gorillas on the slopes of the Volcanoes is allocated. After the trek, take the easy way out of the park then drive to the lodge. Those with a walking difficulty, the porters help with descent on the steeper trails. The waiting safari vehicle at the edge of the National park gets you back to the lodge for meals then overnight at the Virunga Lodge.

Day Five:              Breakfast at the lodge and meanwhile take another visit to the National park. See the golden monkeys that inhabit the Bamboo section of the Volcanoes gorilla park. Spend a full hour with these shy monkeys before heading down to Kigali on a 2 hour road transfer. Arrive in the late evening then proceed to your overnight Hotel Accommodation in Kigali for overnight at the Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day Six:                Breakfast at the Hotel then check out with assistance of your Safari guide who will transfer to the Airport for the departure flight marking the end of the Rwanda gorilla hike.

  • Gardening gloves to protect against nettles whilst trekking the gorillas. If required, thick socks should be worn over pants.
