GORILLAS IN THE MIST RWANDA TOUR WITH GOLDEN MONKEYS, DIAN FOSSEY CENTER VISIT AND CHIMPS – 8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS
Day one: Gorillas in the mist Rwanda safari begins with arrival then transferred by a Travelust African Safaris representative. Drive to Kigali town for check in and overnight Mille Collines Hotel. This is booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Mille Collines Hotel features is featured in the Oscar Winning movie “Hotel Rwanda”
Day Two: Breakfast at leisure before heading to the Nyungwe Forest on an easy 260 Kms transit. This would be the second day on your gorillas in the mist Rwanda tour. Attractions along the way include the National Museum of Butare then the Genocide Memorial of Murambi. The Rwandan populace took refuge here during the 1994 genocide and were massacred in numbers. Remains of men, women and children are still visible on the tour of this memorial and the guides will be on hand to retell the stories of their own survival. After lunch in Butare, your Rwanda Gorillas in the Mist tour gets you to the Nyungwe Forest Lodge arriving for dinner and overnight. The budget option would be at the Gisakura Guest House.
Day Three: Nyungwe primate forest
An early start in this equatorial forest teeming with wildlife yields colonies of the Black and Rwenzori Colubus. Also, White Colubus and the habituated colonies of Owl faced Monkeys. After the morning forest safari, we return for lunch and have the evening at leisure before dinner and overnight at the Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Gisakura Guest House.
Day Four: A very early morning start for the Rwanda Chimpanzee tour . The guides will be tracking a troop of habituated Chimps. We return for lunch then take a leisurely four hour drive through some magnificent scenery on the way to Bethanie Guest House. Meals and overnight will be had here.
Day Five: To the Gorilla sanctuary
The Rwanda Gorilla gorilla trek starts this day by driving up the Volcanoes headed for Kinigi on winding roads. It is in these misty forests in the hear of Africa that Dian Fossey set up base during the scientific research of the Mountain Gorillas. Have lunch in Gisenyi before driving through some beautiful scenic points before heading up into the Volcanoes for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla’s Nest Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day Six:
Morning breakfast before assembling at the Park offices for registration. The Gorillas tour starts here after a briefing by the Ranger Guides. The trek which involves some strenuous trekking takes another couple of hours before reaching the Mountain gorilla group. The tourists will stay with the Gorillas for approximately one hour before heading back to the Hotel for lunch. Evening is free to explore the nearby villages on foot or by safari vehicle before returning for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day Seven: Dian fossey tour Rwanda
This morning, the guides then start early for the full day visit to the Karisoke Research Center established by the famous Dr Dian Fossey. The Movie “Gorillas in the Mist Rwanda” was shot here on Location. Graves of Dian Fossey’s together with her once beloved Mountain Gorillas can be visited here. Thereafter, return in the evening for dinner and overnight at the Mountain gorilla view Lodge.
Day Eight: End of Rwanda Safari
Depending on the departure time of your flight, then descend from the Gorilla Mountains to Kigali. A nice winding road taking approximately two hours to the airport. The Gorillas in the Mist tour to Rwanda finally ends at the airport in Kigali around noon.
