7 Days Rwanda primate Safari gorillas and golden Monkeys with Dian Fossey trek
Day 1: Begin the the Rwanda primate safari with a morning or early afternoon arrival at Kigali International Airport. Your safari guide will meet you on arrival for a short briefing, then transfer by 4×4 safari vehicle. Through the Rwanda countryside into the Mountains, take a winding road through magnificent scenery of terraced farms and lush scenery. There after, check in at your Lodge either in Musanze(formerly ruhengeri) for dinner and the night at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. This is a 2 and a half hour drive that also takes into consideration that there would be stops along the way to take pictures.
Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla trek safari
Morning breakfast and assemble at the park offices in Kinigi where the allocation of gorilla trekking groups takes place. The gorilla briefing takes place here where the guides teach the code of conduct during your gorilla visit. Later, in the company of the trackers, ranger and with a group of other visitors, you start the walk through Bamboo forests and mountain vegetation on the gorilla trek. Finally, encounter the gorilla family and have one hour of viewing the apes including a Silver-back, babies, black backs and females. Later, the trekking ends when you exit the park and drive back to your lodge for lunch, dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 3: Dian Fossey Hike
Early morning breakfast and meet the guides for the walk to Karisoke. The Kasrisoke Research Centre established by Dr. Dian Fossey in 1967, is at the Kabara meadow between the Karisimbi and Visoke Volcanoes. It was to later be re known as “Karisoke” a joined word for Karisimbi and Visoke. This place, established by Fossey as a way of controlling poaching of the Mountain gorillas which was going on unabated. It was in this center that she was murdered in 1985, probably by poachers or people against her efforts of gorilla conservation. The visit here also includes touring the graveyards of the Mountain gorillas, Dian Fossey’s grave and her work station. Have a picnic lunch and later return to your accommodations for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge in Kinigi.
Day 4: Nyungwe and gorillas
Morning breakfast and then transfer on an all day drive to the Nyungwe National park. It is believed that the farthest sources of the River Nile may originate from the forests of Nyungwe. Several colonies of Colobus Monkeys and some troops of Chimpanzees can be seen in this forest. Later one, arrive in the early evening for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Top view Hotel.
Day 5: Breakfast early, then start trekking in the forest looking for the Blue Monkeys, Golden Monkeys, Angola Colubus Monkeys. Alternatively, do the more strenuous chimpanzee trekking experience to see troops of chimps play in the trees. Please note that this activity is recommended for those in a good shape physically. Other wildlife in this forest include the Olive Baboons, Olive Baboons and grey cheeked mangabeys. Later on, return for meals and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Top view Hotel.
Day 6: Rwanda Safari Tours
Morning breakfast then transfer to the Murambi Genocide memorial where thousands of the Tutsi and moderate Hutu died in a church massacre. Later, head out to Kigali arriving in the early evening for overnight at the Kigali Serena or the Hotel Gorillas.
Day 7:
Morning breakfast, then take your transfer vehicle to the airport for the departure flight.
