Safaris in Kenya tour to Mount Kenya, Shaba, Sweetwaters, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and Masai Mara – 12 Day Safari

Day 1: On arrival for your first day for the Kenya 12 day safari, met on arrival by your English speaking safari guide and transferred to your overnight Hotel in Nairobi. Spend the evening  at the Hotel’s heated swimming pool and bar lounge. Meals and overnight at the New Stanley Sarova Hotel. The New Stanley, one of the oldest Luxury hotels in Kenya, built during the 1930’s to cater for the first safaris in Kenya. It has hosted a host of prominent personalities, among them, Ernest Hemingway.

Day 2:  Mount Kenya

Morning breakfast at the Hotel, before checking out and driving to the Mount Kenya National park. This is a 200km drive through Central Kenya to the higher elevation area close to the Mount Kenya. Your safari guide gets you to the Serena Mountain Lodge where you have lunch from a raised platform overlooking the waterhole. As African Elephants and Cape Buffalo emerge from the forest to have a drink at the waterhole.

The evening is spent viewing wildlife from the nearby hide to see the wildlife at close quarters. Alternatively, exploring the park on a guided safari in search of Elephants and water buck. Tree hyrax, black fronted duiker, leopard, giant forest hog, white tailed mongoose, bush buck and rhino. Later on, spend the evening at the spa, enjoying massages, pedicures and manicures. Later, dinner at the roof top dinning before dinner, then overnight at your tree house cottage at Serena Mountain Lodge. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3: Kenya Safari Tour

Breakfast, then depart for the Shaba game reserve arriving for lunch at the Shaba Sarova Lodge. The lodge is spectacularly located on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. The mid afternoon is spent, either enjoying the nearby fish pond or having a swim at the free form swimming pool. The late afternoon when the temperatures cool down, we will have a game viewing safari in the game reserve as we search for Kenya’s Big Five, and other animals not seen on safari, at other destinations. The gerenuks can be seen browsing on the shrubs, while the magnificent Beisa Oryx with a striking appearance and sharp pointed horns, is usually seen feeding late into the evening or early in the mornings. Later, return to your overnight accommodations for dinner and overnight at the Shaba Sarova. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4: Morning breakfast and an early morning safari on this semi desert where we will be searching for the Kenya’s rare wildlife. The mid morning safari concentrates along the Ewaso Nyiro River where some rare bird watching features; William’s Lark,Somali Ostrich, Egyptian Geese, Vulturine Guinea fowl, Black-headed Heron, Sacred Ibis, Secretary-bird, Black Crake, Blacksmith Plover and many others. In the evening, we would be looking for Lions, stripped Hyena, Impala, leopard, reticulated Giraffe and Cheetah. Return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight at the Shaba Sarova Lodge. Day 5:     Sweet waters

Following breakfast, we will return to the Mount Kenya area and drive to the Sweet waters. Have another game viewing safari before a lunch break. The evening starts with an animal viewing excursion towards the Jane Goodall Chimp Sanctuary at Sweet waters. This is the only place in Kenya, where orphaned chimpanzees, rescued from smugglers receive rehabilitation and protection. On arrival at the sanctuary, you will have a briefing from the care givers, before heading to the Viewing platform to have a better view of the Chimpanzees in the holding area. Later, proceed to the Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 6: Lake Nakuru

Breakfast at the camp and transfer to the Lake Nakuru National park through the Samburu countryside, arriving for a mid morning game drive along the Lake. Lookout for the Flamingos on the Lake, also see white and Black Rhinos in this park. Bird life is also rich in the par with good sightings of White-bellied Bustard, Common Sandpiper, Red-chested Cuckoo, Speckled Mouse bird, Madagascar Bee-eater, Lilac-breasted Roller, Wattled Starling, Red-billed Ox pecker and Mountain Wagtail. Check in at the Lodge for lunch before another safari in the evening before dinner and overnight Lake Nakuru Lion Hill Game Lodge. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 7: Kenya Tour in Lake Nakuru National Park

Morning breakfast and an early start for game viewing. Look out for Lion hunts, solitary cape buffalo that keep at the edge of the water banks, Elands as well as large herds of cape buffalo grazing, Giraffe and Rhinos being a common sighting. The afternoons after and before lunch, you would cool down at the swimming pool before and evening game drive, which ends with cultural entertainment by the local Masai/samburu tribes people. Meals and overnight at Nakuru Lion Hill Game Lodge. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 8:  Lake nakuru to Lake Naivasha

Morning after breakfast, our safari to the Lake Nakuru ends with a short drive to the private animal sanctuary. We arrive at the crescent Island on lake Naivasha, where it is possible to have guided walks with the rangers. Wildlife is so prolific here with sightings of the African fish Eagles,Pelicans, Hippos which submerge at the nearby banks, or grazing under the thickets. Wildebeest, Gazelle, Water buck, Eland and Zebra can be approached on foot. You may also witness the kills by the African rock pythons, as they strangle Impala. In the evening, depart for the Lake Naivasha for dinner and overnight at the Lake Naivasha Club. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 9 Masai Mara Safari

Morning breakfast and drive through Central Kenya. We will proceed through the Town of Narok before heading into the Masai Mara Game reserve. A mid afternoon safari starts in your open topped safari vehicle as you try to catch glimpses of the Big Five animals. In the African Savannah, you will probably see the following species of birds on your safari drive: Red-winged Francolin, Yellow-necked Francolin and the Martial Eagle. Have lunch at the lodge before an evening drive through the tracks to see more of the wildlife of the Masai Mara. Dinner and overnight at the Mara Sarova camp. Day 10: Mara game viewing and birdwatching

The morning game viewing safari starts with breakfast at the Camp. Later, the driver guide lookouts for the best spots where the migrations are concentrated. Lookout for cheetahs in the tree shades, lion prides, wildebeest, Giraffe, warthog and Elephant. later on, will return to the camp to have the luxury of cooling off in the swiping pool during the afternoon heat. Later, in the evening, you could consider visiting a typical Kenyan Masai family to learn more about the Masai. Have a sunset game viewing drive in the park before returning for dinner and cultural performances. Later, overnight at the Mara Sarova Tented Camp. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 11:  Masai Mara game reserve

Depending on the time of the year, rise up early and drive to the crossing points, where the crocodiles feed off the crossing wildebeest. See Water bucks and Zebras during the annual migrations. You may also see Leopard, Greater Kudu, Olive Baboons that usually forage into the acacia dotted Savannah. Grant’s Gazelle as well as the Thomson’s Gazelle are a common occurrence. Black Rhinoceros seen on the drive, while the Banded Mongoose dig out beetles and feed off bugs. Meals and overnight Mara Sarova Camp. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

 Day 12: After breakfast, we exit the game reserve with a mid morning safari. Later on, drive to Nairobi to catch the afternoon departure flight for onward connections.
